The number one reason to have a lavender plant in your home is not because they are beautiful to look at. They are, but there's better reasons still.
1. Lavender is a known stress and anxiety reliever. The compounds in its leaves and flowers can be ground between your fingers then rubbed onto the temples. This application can soothe the body and mind by relieving anxious thoughts and balancing the mood. Apart from this method, you can brew lavender tea to achieve much the same effect. The antioxidant components in it can impact the endocrine system to lower the levels of stress hormones in the body.
2. Lavender is the best plant to have in your bedroom for a restful night's sleep. In one study, the smell of lavender reduced crying in babies, which for any new parents, comes as welcome news. Of course, we all know too that living plants emit oxygen, so why not have a natural air purifier in your bedroom every night.
3. Make a valuable contribution to our native bee population simply by having a Lavender plant at home.
Why not treat a new mum, your stressed out work colleague, yourself or the buzzy buddies in your back yard to a little something special.
